memoQ TM search tool
This tool, provided with a local installation of memoQ client software, is separate from memoQ itself and enables the use of local memoQ translation memories to look up text copied in another window, such as a Microsoft Word file or another CAT tool as well as translation environments without translation memories or with restricted access to them.
There are no restrictions on the language pairs of the translation memories searched. A full text search is performed on all the selected resources. Thus, for example, this tool could be used to search a French-Italian memoQ TM while working in memoQ or another CAT tool on a Portuguese-Spanish project.
As you copy text in your working window, the clipboard contents are automatically transferred to the search window and matches appear.
| Shortcut | Description |
|---|---|
| Ctrl+Shift+Q | Starts the memoQ TM search tool, immediately searches for any text on the Windows Clipboard. |
| Ctrl+C | Copies new text to the TM search window and executes a search. |
| Ctrl+Alt+C | Copies the target text of a selected match to the Clipboard. |
| Ctrl+Shift+C | Copies the source text of a selected match to the Clipboard. |
| Ctrl+V | Pastes the Clipboard text into another application. |
The Search settings button allows you to select any of your memoQ translation memories for use in other applications via the TM search tool and to specify other parameters such as the minimum match rate, alignment penalty and consideration of tags in matching.
A translation memory selected in the TM search tool cannot be opened or used in memoQ while the search tool is active nor can the search tool access TMs which are attached to an open memoQ project. An orange lightning bolt is displayed in the TM list to indicate this status. After the search tool is closed, the TM is available again for use in memoQ, and after a project is closed, its TMs are available again to the search tool.
The search tool could also be useful as a second concordance in memoQ to search a particular set of translation memories not attached to the currently opened project.
Changing the default launch shortcut[edit | edit source]
In some cases, the default keystrokes to open the memoQ TM search tool (Ctrl+Shift+Q) may conflict with key assignments in other programs, or there may be other reasons why you want to change the keys used to start the program.
To change the assignment of the keys to launch the search tool,
- Go to the Windows Start menu
- Open the folder for your memoQ installation
- Right-click the memoQ TM Search
- Select Properties
Place the cursor in the Shortcut key field, press the key combination you want to assign or clear the combination (set it to None), and then confirm with Apply or OK. The icon can also be reassigned in the Properties dialog to avoid confusion in the taskbar.
