PM Procedures for Unexpected Events
There are times when personal and professional unexpected events may occur in the lives of project managers. When these happen it is best to have procedures in place.Talk to project managers about what those procedures should be.
What should the PM who will be absent do[edit | edit source]
When trying to understand which procedures to follow keep in mind the severity and urgency levels of the event before deciding how many of the procedures described bellow you should and can follow.
High Urgency and Severity[edit | edit source]
If your unexpected event is an emergency such as a sudden health issue or a serious family issue then all that is expected is an email to the other project managers and management or a quick call to one of them informing them of your absence. This is why it is important to have your files and project status on the TMS and Linguaemundi Archive up to date, precisely so that when sudden emergencies come along colleagues can pick up where you left off.
Lower Urgency and Severity[edit | edit source]
If you have time to handle your unexpected event for example in the case of a more minor health issue or just needing a personal day off due to some misfortune or just plain feeling bad. It is appreciated if you prepare a standard Absence Sheet with the work to be performed on that day. You can find the Sheet here.. This saves your colleagues a lot of time and allows them to distribute work amongst themselves faster.
What should the team dealing with the Absence do[edit | edit source]
Have an emergency meeting to distribute work amongst remaining staff.[edit | edit source]
A Quick Call amongst remaining Project Managers should be held to distribute the work between them.
