Mysterious memoQ problems

memoQ rules, Trados drools! But sometimes....

Even the best software has issues that are just a frustrating mystery beyond the ken of the best support staff an consultants. memoQ is no exception to this awful, universal rule.

So... what to do if suddenly a translator or reviser can't make changes to the target text in a local or online project? Before calling the fire department or smashing a computer screen, try rebooting the computer where access or functionality is suddenly not OK. That may solve the problem?

Why is that? Well, sorry, but that is a mystery to be revealed only to those initiated into the highest Masonic order. Seriously, though, any computer these days has a lo0t of stuff going on in the background of which most of us are blissfully unaware. Often the problems are not actually the fault of the software that suddenly doesn't work. Instead, it might be due to anti-virus software, a new Windows update, some cool little note-taking utility you downloaded off a free software site, conflicts with speech recognition software or some other crazy thing. You or your support staff may never discover the true source of the trouble.

Nonetheless, it's a good idea to keep a record of these incidents, and if a pattern emerges, this may help memoQ Support or in-house staff or someone else figure out the real problem. Sometimes it's crazy stuff with your Internet provider and nobody can do anything but wait 15 minutes until the problem just goes away.

If you changed nothing and no changes were made on the server to which you connect for work, try a reboot. Document and report the problem. If no solution is found right away, have a coffee break, go for a walk, get a good night's sleep or whatever. Time heals most bugs!
