Auto-translation rules
Auto-translation rules are special configurations in memoQ that provide assistance in the translation and editing grid as well as in quality assurance (if auto-translation rules are enabled on the first tab of the QA profile used).
Auto-translation rules are regex-based resources in memoQ TMS which provide assistance in translation and review in the editing grid, where they appear as green hits in the Translation Results, and in QA, where checking against them can be enabled on the first tab of the QA profile chosen.
These rules can be applied to any problems of pattern recognition in text to handle information such as numbers, currency expressions, dates, time, legal and bibliographic citations, catalog numbers, abbreviations, etc.
Implementation at Linguaemundi[edit | edit source]
The use of auto-translation rules at LM began with date-checking in a project involving clinical data from Covid vaccines. There the objective was to ensure that dates written in various languages in the source text would be mapped consistently to the same abbreviated date format in English. A single ruleset was designed to handle input from multiple source languages. In a later project, currency formats and long dates were implemented from English (both US and UK) to Angolan Portuguese and European Portuguese conventions.
There will be a lot more of these coming in the future.....
